TAS: Gay group hails Greig
HOBART, Aug 23 AAP - The Tasmanian Gay and Lesbian Rights Group today welcomed theappointment of Brian Greig as interim leader of the Australian Democrats.
Group spokesman Rodney Croome said Senator Greig, as an openly gay party leader, wasa role model for gay and lesbian Australians.
"In a society which often ignores or derides homosexual people, Senator Greig is anall too rare example of a gay man who is given an opportunity to undertake a respectedand important leadership role," Mr Croome said.
"For those many young lesbian and gay people who experience often extreme levels ofisolation and discrimination, Senator Greig's appointment will be an inspiration."
Mr Croome said he hoped Senator Greig would continue to be a strong advocate of gay rights.
