QLD: Forum examines ship safety

CAIRNS, Qld, Feb 6 AAP - Marine pilot training and the future of shipping within the
Great Barrier Reef Marine Park were key issues at a public forum in Cairns today.

GRMPA head Virginia Chadwick said her organisation was eager to take public submissions
on any aspect of ship safety and pollution control.

The Review of Great Barrier Reef ship safety and pollution prevention measures was
called by Deputy Prime Minister John Anderson in the wake of the grounding of a Malaysian
merchantman on Sudbury Reef just south-east of Cairns last year.
