NSW: Bali boy awaits assessment ahead of surgery

A five-day-old baby flown overnight from Bali to Australia is being assessed to seewhether he's strong enough for emergency surgery today.

RAJA MOORE and his Adelaide parents were flown to Sydney in an RAAF C-130 Herculesaccompanied by doctors from the New South Wales Newborn and Paediatric Emergency TransportService.

He's expected to undergo life-saving surgery at the Westmead Children's Hospital tofix a rare lung condition which is causing him to drown in his own saliva.

RAJA's windpipe and oesophagus have failed to develop normally, creating a blockageto swallowing.

A hospital spokeswoman says RAJA is in a stable condition but doctors haven't decidedwhether to operate today.

RAJA's parents, 31-year-old LYALL MOORE and his 21-year-old Balinese wife LATIFAH,will stay at Westmead Children's Hospital with their son and are expected to speak publiclyabout their ordeal on Monday.
