Baidu, Wasu to Cooperate in Interactive TV, Internet TV
BEIJING, Jul 06, 2011 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- Baidu Inc., global largest Chinese search engine, reached a strategic cooperation agreement with media company Wasu to focus on interactive TV and Internet TV.
Baidu wil embed a number of applications such as search and map in Wasu digital TV set-top boxes and Internet TV broadcasting control platforms to provide TV search services for tens of millions of family users in more than 100 cities across the country. In the future, the two parties will further expand the cooperation to more areas and will jointly explore and develop new technologies, products and services business models in the digital multimedia era to bring more high-quality and rich multimedia application experiences to a wide range of TV users.
Data compiled by the State Administration of Radio Film and Television of China show as of the end of 2010, the comprehensive coverage of TV populations in China has hit 97.62%, and the number of TV users is far larger than that of Internet users and mobile phone users.
